What is ADR compliance?
In order to register an imported vehicle in australia it needs to have an approved australian compliance plate and the VIN number needs to be on the national database. Only licensed RAWS (Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme) can affix this compliance plate to your vehicle but only after the vehicle has been modified to meet all applicable australian design rules.
In order to import your vehicle into Australia you first need to obtain an import approval permit from DOTARS. Only RAWS workshops can obtain this permit on your behalf. It is illegal to import a vehicle without a permit, and if you do try to import wihout an approval your vehicle will likely be seized by customs in Australia or sent back to the country of origin.
RAWS workshops undergo strict policy and both internal and external audits in order to retain their accreditation. As a RAWS workshop we hold specific evidence for each approved model on our approved list of vehicles to demonstrate compliance to each applicable ADR that relates to the vehicle. The test reports are very extensive and costly and relate to items such as brake testing, noise testing, headlight and indicator testing, speedometer testing and the list goes on.
